What do these three men have in
common?
When I
asked my sixteen year-old nephew this question, he looked at me rather pitifully and said, "Umm.....I think
they all play the drums!"
He was
100% correct of course and being so young he was not expected to know any more than that. But what
about you - what do you say they have in common?
Would you agree that
they:
 |
were three of the world's
master drummers? |
 |
influenced more people to
learn and master the drums than any others of their generation? |
 |
were dominant driving
influences behind drum kit sales for nearly 50 years? |
 |
were the pioneers
in their genre of music and made it as popular as what it is today? |
 |
the reason that Ludwig,
Slingerland and Gretsch became three of the most popular selling drum brands of
all time? |
Or how about these three
men?

Joe
Morello
|
Ringo
Starr
|
Charlie
Watts
|
The list could go on couldn't it?
But here's another thing
they all have in common:
 |
There was a time when none
of them knew how to play the drums. |
 |
But they thought they would have
a go and learn them. |
 |
Because they had a go they
developed a passion for playing the drums. |
 |
They learned to
master the drums. |
 |
Their personal dreams became
realities. |
 |
They have brought countless
hours of listening enjoyment to others |
So have a look at these
6 dot-points
above, again.
CreativeArtisticDiscovery believes you can do that. The only
difference between these people and yourself is, they got started. Once they got started
they kept going - they did not give up.
People say, "you need talent." No, you need belief in yourself
and desire. There are plenty of talented drummers in the world, but they have not progressed
very far and they never will. Why not? Well, it has nothing to do with
their ability, but rather, it has all to do with their believability and
desirability. In other words, their biggest stumbling block is in their thinking rather
than their doing.
It is said that there are no limitations to the
mind except those we acknowledge. It's true. That is the major
difference between those who succeed and those who don't - in the drumming world just as it is
everywhere else.
If you have been putting off taking that first step in learning to
play and master the drums for any reason, the chances are it has more to do with your
thinking also, rather than your ability.
Have you got the belief that you
can be one of those people? Have you got the believability and desirability to give it a go
and stick with it?
By the way, you don't need a Ludwig,
Slingerland or Gretsch drum kit. A good practice pad and a pair of sticks will get
you going. As you progress, the people at your local music shop will be more than willing to
advise you on which set is suitable for you and your budget.
